Day 12 of my teaching practice was a vibrant and energetic day as the school hosted its annual arts fest. There were no regular classes, so the entire day was dedicated to celebrating the artistic talents of the students. The school was abuzz with excitement, with students from various grades showcasing their creativity through a wide range of performances and exhibits. The day began with a colorful inauguration ceremony, where the school principal delivered an inspiring speech about the importance of arts in education, along with hoisting of school flag. Following that, the students took to the stage, performing dance, music, drama, and more. The fest also featured a variety of visual art displays, including paintings, sculptures, and craft work, all created by the students. I spent most of the day assisting in coordinating the events, ensuring everything ran smoothly and the students were well-prepared for their performances. It was heartwarming to see the students so enthusias...

🍃Together we rise: DAY 11

Teaching is one such passion that requires immense amount of resilience, determination perseverance and commitment. I feel today is my day of that testing. I was literally unwell for the entire day. The rendered support and mindfulness will always be remembered. Day 11 of teaching practice was quite challenging as it was a day of testing, both for the students and me. I wasn't feeling well due to health conditions, but my supportive co-teachers adjusted my noon serving duty, allowing me to rest. By evening, I gathered enough strength to take a revision class for 8U, which went smoothly. Later, I had an important interview for the Zoo-reach Conservation Seed Grants. It was a day that tested my resilience, but I’m grateful for the support and opportunities that kept me going.

The focus was on reinforcing key concepts discussed earlier in the week. The students were engaged and actively participated in the session, ensuring they were well-prepared for upcoming assessments. In addition to the usual classroom activities, the NSS unit of Mar Theophilus Training College launched a new talk series for the students of St. Mary’s. This initiative is set to...

A Blend of Learning and Celebration

Day 9 of my teaching practice was both eventful and inspiring. The day began with a quiz conducted by the Mar Theophilus NSS unit at St. Mary’s, commemorating Independence Day. High school students participated eagerly, showcasing their knowledge of India’s rich history. The quiz, filled with excitement and friendly competition, brought students together and instilled a sense of patriotism. After the quiz, I conducted a class for 9D students, focusing on the human heart. We explored the double circulation, the importance of cardiovascular health. To engage the students, I used a mix of teaching methods, including diagrams, interactive discussions, and videos. This day reinforced the impact of diverse learning experiences on student engagement. It was rewarding to witness students' curiosity and participation, both in the quiz and in the classroom. As a teacher, I find joy in guiding and inspiring young minds, crafting the future with each lesson. Teaching is not just about impartin...

Day 8: Sowing Seeds of Curiosity and Patriotism

Today began with the familiar hum of anticipation as I prepared for the day’s class in the early morning hours, weaving together educational threads for my students. Armed with this blueprint of knowledge, I headed to the school kitchen to join my colleagues in fulfilling our kitchen duty, a time for camaraderie and shared responsibility. The morning was a blur of activities, but I found solace in the focused energy of writing lesson plans. As the school buzzed with preparations for the Independence Day quiz competition, the atmosphere was electric with excitement. The last hour found me in the vibrant company of my 8U class. We embarked on a new chapter, “Let’s Regain Our Fields,” and I led my students through a brainstorming session that sparked their curiosity and unearthed their thoughts on food scarcity and food security. A aksharamuttam Quiz was conducted in the school for high school and higher secondary students. One of friend became the quiz master and rest of the coll...

Learning and Teamwork Under the Rainy Skies

Day 7:  Morning Line Duty and Class at 9D : The day began with the morning line duty, setting a tone of orderliness and punctuality for the school day. In the 2nd hour, I entered 9D to teach the "Pulse and Blood Pressure" chapter. To make the lesson engaging and interactive, I conducted a group activity where students measured each other’s pulse and discussed their observations. This hands-on experience helped them grasp the concept better, fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation among the students. Lunch and Midday Meal Serving: After completing the morning sessions, I joined other teachers for lunch after serving the midday meal. Sharing a meal provided an opportunity for camaraderie and informal discussions about teaching strategies and student progress, making it a refreshing break from the usual routine. Afternoon Activities and Lesson Preparations: Post-lunch, I devoted time to preparing lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations, ensuring that my upcoming classes...

Day 6 of Teaching Practice: A New Week Begins

Image
The new week kicked off with vibrant energy as our school hosted a drawing and painting competition to celebrate Independence Day. The morning session was filled with creativity as students expressed their patriotism through art. However, this was just the calm before the storm as a sudden change in the timetable brought some chaos. My schedule was shuffled; I was reassigned from 8B to 8U and from 9H to 9D. I quickly adapted, collecting the new portions and preparing my lessons. In the sixth period, I taught the topic of vascular tissues in class 8B1. The session was made even more interesting as Gayathri Teacher joined for peer observation, providing valuable feedback and support. Despite the disruptions and the challenges of the new timetable, the day was productive and enriching. The students were engaged and curious, which made teaching them a rewarding experience. By the end of the day, I was exhausted but satisfied with the progress. To unwind, I headed to a juice shop with...

A Day of Innovation and Inspiration at "Shastra Mela. Today marked a unique and invigorating experience during my teaching practice as there were no regular classes due to the highly anticipated "Shastra Mela." This event was a grand showcase of creativity and knowledge, spanning various disciplines including science, social science, mathematics, English, Malayalam, work education, and music. My role for the day was multifaceted, involving both volunteering and judging, which allowed me to deeply engage with the students' innovative exhibits. My primary duty was stationed in the science section, located in the main auditorium. The science exhibits were spread across four levels, each level brimming with the curiosity and intellect of the students. The exhibits ranged from static models to working models, improvised designs, and detailed projects, each one reflecting the students’ understanding. The mela was meticulously organized into three sessions—UP, HS, and HSS—c...

Day 4of Teaching Practice: A Dynamic Experience

Image
Day 4 of my teaching practice was both fulfilling and insightful. I started the day with a substitution class in 9H during the 2nd hour, where I creatively introduced biology terms related to the digestive system through a story. This approach aimed to make complex concepts more relatable and engaging for the students. The 3rd hour brought my actual class in the same grade, where I taught the "Swallowing" portion. This session was particularly significant as it was observed by the concerned teacher, Judith Mam, providing an opportunity for valuable feedback. The noon duty had me participating in the food-serving process, allowing me to engage with students in a different context. The afternoon sessions were free due to a high school PTA meeting, which I used productively by writing a lesson plan. The last hour was an exciting experience as all teacher trainees from MTTC gathered for a collaborative teaching session at the canteen, fostering a strong sense of community. To cap...

*Day 3 of Teaching Practice: A Diverse Learning Experience*

My third day of teaching practice was a whirlwind of activities and diverse learning experiences. It began with an engaging first-hour session in class 10E, where we delved into the fascinating world of birds. The students were highly enthusiastic, and their curiosity made the discussion lively and interactive. By the fourth hour, I found myself in a substitution role for class 9H. This unexpected change required flexibility, but the students were cooperative, making the transition smooth. During noon duty, I helped serve the mid-day meal. This was a humbling experience, allowing me to connect with students beyond the classroom and understand the importance of these meals in their daily lives. In the sixth hour, back in class 9H, I initially planned to teach respiration. However, due to a sudden change, I shifted to discussing the structure of the tooth within the digestion chapter. The adaptability demonstrated by the students was commendable. The day concluded with a seventh-hour...
